Satonda is an uninhabited volcanic island
next to Moyo with a large salt-water lake in its crater. This lake was created with the
Tsunami which formed from the deadly 1813 eruption of Mount Tambora on Sumbawa. The dive
sites here feature a big variety of reef fish, as well as ghost
pipefish and frogfish.
Banta Island's north west coast features
yet another perfect wall. This site is known for it's many varieties
of
invertebrate life,
fish and large pelagics. GPS Point, a submerged pinnacle in Banta's northern bay is home
to a large variety of reef sharks.
Teluk Gili Lawa, situated off Komodo's north coast, is a great
night diving spot. This reef is filled with many colored tunicates, fans, sponges,
anemones as well as a variety of reef fish. A large school of bumphead parrot fish usually
make an appearance sometime during the dive.
Gili Lawa Laut accommodates a submerged rock off the north coast of
the island. Lots of pelagic fish, nudibranches, and an occasional shark are on the agenda.
Several other pinnacles are scattered around the island.
Batubulan is a most spectacular rock dive.
The wall drops straight down to hundreds of feet and there is plenty to see along the
sheer face of the wall. Huge pelagic predators are visible in the distance, occasionally
coming closer for a chance to catch a meal. Close to Batubulan is Sebayur Kecil, which is
a gentle slope dive and a wall dive site.
South Rinca features cooler water, which
make "Cannibal Rock" a most spectacular and outstanding dive site. Fish life is
most diverse and abundant, there is a big variety of both hard and soft coral, as well as
an assortment of sea fans, anemones, and nudibranches. The protected 'Horseshoe Bay', at
the southernmost tip of Rinca, is surrounded on all sides by towering rock cliffs densely
covered in trees.
